Moving & Handling Advisor (Clinical)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Moving and Handling Advisor (Clinical) to join our Children’s Trust School. You will provide high quality; evidence based moving and handling risk assessments and promote safe systems of work. The role will offer formal training to internal staff, as well as child/ young person specific consultation around safe moving and handling assessment, guidance and equipment use.
Additionally, you will provide effective communication and training within House-based multidisciplinary teams. Our service delivery aims to promote outcome focussed interventions, safe care, function, and participation, of children and young people accessing The Children’s Trust clinical services

Role Requirements
- Lead the provision of high quality, evidence based moving and handling consultation for children and young people attending The Children’s Trust School and rehabilitation services, in partnership with other members of the multidisciplinary team and education services.
- Undertake specialist moving and handling risk assessments of children with highly complex needs e.g., multiple co-morbidities, neurodisability and chronic conditions, through standardised and non-standardised assessments and clinical observations.
• Monitor and review the moving and handling risk assessment processes, documentation, and reporting system.
• Devise and support moving and handling plans that fit within the child’s daily routine, whether to be carried out by parents or members of the Multidisciplinary Team; these should be monitored, evaluated, and adjusted appropriately according to the needs of the child.
• Develop goals in collaboration with the child and family, as well as the multidisciplinary and education teams, other health professionals and external agencies, to facilitate participation in their environment.
• Teach, integrate, and monitor safe moving and handling techniques, whether they are carried out by parents, school staff, therapy staff, nursing, or care staff.
• Assess for and organise provision of necessary moving and handling equipment. This may be loaned equipment for use at The Children’s Trust or recommendations for equipment for long-term use on return to home.
• Keep appropriate and accurate intervention records, fulfilling legal, professional and all other requirements of The Children’s Trust.
• Provide reporting on training and assessment compliance, sharing information with the Health & Safety and clinical asset team.
• Implement the moving and handling policy approach to MDT working across the site
• Report on moving and handling key performance indicators, feeding into Clinical Governance Develop and implement audits on moving and handling documentation to ensure it is kept up to date, complies with statutory requirements and is fit for purpose.
• Ensure that findings from audits and inspections are presented in such a way as to highlight good practice and support learning.
• Become a member of the National Back Exchange, providing feedback to Moving & Handling Coordinators and Moving & Handling Risk Assessors from attending relevant conferences.
• Provide leadership (within the context of moving and handling) across The Children’s Trust.
• Be a positive and inspirational role model for all team members.
• Work closely with all members of the Multidisciplinary Team, as well as the child and family, to provide a fully integrated approach to the overall management of the child.
